40.9% of female students, compared to 25.2% of male students, reported at least one episode of mistreatment. 

Multiracial students reported higher rates of mistreatment compared to white students, and underrepresented minority female students reported the highest levels of racial and ethnic discrimination (26.5%)

Students identifying as lesbian, gay, or bisexual reported the highest rates of mistreatment, with 43.5% reporting at least one episode of mistreatment, compared to 23.6% for heterosexual students. Nearly 22% reported that they were subjected to offensive remarks or names related to their sexual orientation, compared to 0.8% for heterosexual students.

Parents of male students are more likely to take out loans on their behalf. Male student borrowers are the least likely to have high amounts of debt. 58% of all student loan debt belongs to women. Female students are more likely to obtain student loans for themselves. 55.9% of males received federal loans while 21.5% received nonfederal loans. In the same period, the average White woman’s student loan debt shrinks by 28%. White men, in comparison, see their student loan debts drop by 44%.

78 percent of Black LGBTQ individuals report that discrimination has affected their ability to be hired to some degree; 55 percent of white LGBTQ respondents reported the same.

Trans students specifically may also be at elevated risk for mental health issues. Research indicates higher rates of distress among trans college students (Effrig, Bieschke, & Locke, 2011), suicidal ideation (Becker, Roberts, Ritts, Branagan, Warner, & Clark, 2017), and eating disorder diagnoses (Diemer, Grant, Munn-CHernoff, Patterson, & Duncan, 2015) compared to cisgender college students
